Ethics Scholarship Competition - Roberts Wesleyan College

The ethics scholarship competition is an event that we offer to college bound juniors and seniors in the local high schools. This competitions purpose was not only to help these high school students be able to get some help financially for college and thus make them more college bound. This competition provided these students with a deep knowledge of ethical behaviors in practices, not only in a college setting but also in a career.

We had 33 students attend our event this year. They started of their day hearing about ethics from our guest speaker Jamarr Myers who works for Wegmans.  The students loved learning from Jamarr, he taught them the ins and out of ethics in the workplace.  After we had our guest speaker we had our eleven teams of three start preparing for the competition. Each team was provided with a Roberts Wesleyan Student to provide them with their case studies. We prepared two case studies, one international case and one regular business case both of which had an ethical dilemma. The teams had to make a PowerPoint for each case study and present them in front of a panel of judges. The judges consisted of faculty, students and the community. The judges graded them on their ethical solution, creativity and their presentation skills.

The judges choose four winning teams. The first place team each received a lap top computer. The Second place team received three hundred dollars each. The third place team received two hundred dollars each and the fourth place team received forty dollars each. All participants received thirty dollars and ethics certificates.  After the competition there was a post essay contest describing what you gained from the competition and what you have learned regarding ethics. The winning essay won a lap top computer.
